CONSTRUCTION OF FERN BAY 6 WWPS

The construction of the Fern Bay sewerage scheme required the construction of a new submersible lift chamber pumping system including associated works such as valve pits, vents, rising main, access chambers, gravity sewer mains and electrical and mechanical works

    The works included but not limited to the following:
    • Aboriginal archaeology dig
    • Construct lift & Valve chamber
    • Polibrid Protective Coating to Chamber
    • Manufacture, install and commission switchboard to run pump
    • Provide a power supply from the existing Energy Australia pole to the new switchboard
    • Construction of overhead and underground power service
    • Supply, install pump including delivery pipework and benching in access chamber
    • Manufacture, install switchboard to run pump
    • Telemetry and automation
    • Control of sewer flows
    • Construction of embankment and hardstand area with bollards
    • Install RPZD, and Water Meter
    • Supply and construct approx 95m of DN90 PE80 rising main including reflux valve and stop valve near pump
    • Supply and construct approx 55m of DN150 uPVC gravity main including new rising main
    • Discharge manhole and connection to existing manhole
    • Road crossing
    • Connection works- Water Main Tapping
    • Restoration
    • Operational & Maintenance Manual
    • Commissioning & Acceptance testing
    • Survey for easements
Challenges and achievement
  • Effective communication with the community and stakeholders, Kerroc acknowledged by the local aboriginal communities for our dedicated works during the exploratory aboriginal archaeology dig on site

  • Site-specific and work-related hazards include:
    • Working in confined space
    • Overhead power
    • Pedestrians–route occasionally used as a thoroughfare
    • Constructing along roadways and within residential area
